Madrid is a big city and has so much to offer. Being the capital of Spain and located in it’s very heart, it’s the country’s cultural and political center. it’s difficult to choose just 10 of its attractions. 1. Plaza Mayor and San Miguel Market 

Built in the 16th century, the beautiful Plaza Mayor (“main square”) is an enclosed city square in the center of Madrid and one of the city’s most famous squares. Filled with restaurants and cafes and different stands, it becomes most active as evening falls, and many locals and tourists gather in the plaza. The San Miguel Market is an indoor market and the most popular market in Madrid among tourists, located just one minute walk from the Plaza Mayor

 

 

2. Puerta del Sol 

Another famous square and gathering point in Madrid, the Puerta del Sol (“Gate of the Sun”) is just few minutes walk away from the Plaza Mayor, as the the two are connected by Calle Mayor (“main street”)

 

 

3. Gran Vía 

Also located in the city center, the Gran Via is Madrid’s a wide road and the most famous shopping street and nightlife street, and passes next to the city’s most important squares

 

4. Royal Palace and Almudena Cathedral 

The Plaza de la Armería is a square located between the Royal Palace of Madrid and the Almudena Cathedral (Madrid’s Cathedral). The palace is thought to be Madrid‘s most beautiful building, and is the largest royal palace in Western Europe, while the Cathedral is the city’s largest and most important church

 

5. Prado Museum 

Without a doubt the most important museum in Madrid and one of the best museums in the world. The Prado is the main Spanish national art museum. It features one of the world’s finest collections of European art, from the 12th century to the early 19th century, based on the former Spanish Royal Collection, and unquestionably the best single collection of Spanish art

 

6. Watch a football game

Madrid is one of the best places to watch a football game! You can watch Real Madrid play in the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, or Atlético Madrid play in the Vicente Calderón Stadium. Either way, you’re going to enjoy a world class game with the an electrifying atmosphere

8. Puerta de Alcalá 

The Puerta de Alcalá or Alcalá Gate is the old city gate. It is located in the Plaza de la Independencia – near the city center and at the entrance to the Parque del Buen Retiro – a big urban park

An ancient Egyptian temple which from the 2nd century BC that was rebuilt in Madrid
